Hey! I've been reading the objectification thread over at Pharyngula since it was the only one I had open in my browser when I learned of the strike, and now I come over here and you've got a hot male model at the top of the page. I just thought it was funny because there was so much discussion of how men aren't viewed as objects of lust in our culture. That really bugs me as a straight woman who, you know, lusts after men sometimes.
I do note that he's a model, which is the important thing here. His profession is to be good-looking, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's very good in his chosen field. :)
I've purposely avoided the objectification thread because I didn't want to be caught in the gunfight there. As a gay man, I also lust after men (if that's not apparent). :)
I tend to agree with PZ on these things: If a person wants to be viewed in a sexual way then it's their choice and we should respected it. However if they don't want to, you've got to respect that too. And from what I can tell, the problem in the objectification thread is that the women scientist weren't asked if they wanted to be viewed as "sexy".

That was my big issue too. The OP didn't seem to get the consent issue was a big deal.
