“CeCe McDonald, the young black transgender woman who accepted a plea deal and pled guilty to second-degree manslaughter last month will be incarcerated by the state of Minnesota as a male. McDonald was arrested after she stabbed a white male who was part of a group of that physically and verbally attacked her with transgender and racial slurs.
The plea agreement calls for a sentence of three years and five months in prison, according to the Star Tribune.
Upon sentencing, McDonald, 24, will be taken into custody by the state Department of Corrections and housed as a male “because he is being housed as a male with Hennepin County,” corrections spokeswoman Sarah Russell told the Star Tribune on Monday. “We will intake him as a male at St. Cloud prison.”
Russell went on to add the state will make its own determination of McDonald’s gender.
“We will assess him as any other offender would be assessed,” Russell said. “The assessments include, but are not limited to, screening for potential vulnerability to sexual assaults, tendencies to act out with sexually aggressive behavior and any disabilities” as defined by federal law.
The Transgender Law Center gathered testimonies from former prisoners, sheriffs, and others, about the risks that many prisoners face and found that sexual violence is an “ever present fact of life for far too many transgender prisoners.”

In which NOM's strategy fails

Essentially, non-whites are more likely to support marriage equality. It dispels the myth that non-white community - particularly African Americans - are more homophobic and less likely to support LGBT equality. It's a really stupid myth if you think about it. Since the African American community is only about 14-16% of the population, there is no way they are responsible for the rash of anti-LGBT laws. The culprit should be more obvious - religious conservatives regardless of race. But I guess the bigger in your face is given to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), whose document reveal that they maliciously try to control African American and Latin American identity in order to turn them against LGBT people (and completely ignoring the existence of queer people of color).

Transphobia and video games

In general, our society is still very transphobic. There's elements of it that lingers in the LGBT community, because all to often people don't want to remember the T part. Video games are no different. More often then not, it reflects the gender normativity of our society that often portrays androgynous or abigious people negatively. I can't claim to know much about the transgendered experience, but I try my best to understand their posistion. (And don't get me wrong. I love the RE series yo. But I can love them and critique them at the same time.)

In Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil Dead Aim, transgendered people are portrayed as in the stereotype of being obsessive (which is why they changed their gender), vain, and untrustworthy. Alfred for RE CV is the obsessive part. He's crazy and obsessed with becoming what he's not (his sister). The idea that transgendered people are what they are "not" has been used to justify the vilification of them. Morpheus is also an obsessive who transform into a female like creature in order to obtain beauty, which is another stereotype of transgendered people (that they are always trying to be beautiful). Sometimes, transgender chose to change their sex because they are trying to become what they truly believe they should be. They're not doing it to become what they are not, because to them they are that way.

I'm not a fan of pointing out "schism" because it's a double edge sword. If you can point out the right's schism then they can point out the left's schism. No movement is monolithic. Still, it's refreshing to see idiots making an ass out of themselves in thinking the right supports them. Attention hog and authoritarian Michael Lucas got to an argument with Ann Coulter (a person who doesn't need my introduction). Lucas is generally right wing, supporting various conservative politicians. He has a great cognitive dissonance in thinking that the right is somehow gay friendly (like all Homosexual Conservative). I have no sympathy for him and treat him as a horrid enemy of social rights. Well it turns out he and Coulter don't agree and it turns into a shout fight with both sides huffing and puffing without substance. It's funny because Homocons don't seem to grasp the concept that the American right doesn't want them there. They are outsiders in the conservative movement.

Anyways, Lucas should stay with what he's good at (which is directing and producing high budget porn) and keep his simple little mind out of politics.

Okay, so what

You may have heard that former head of the RNC Ken Mehlman has come out as gay. The man was responsible for pushing strong anti-homosexual policy, curtailing our rights. Even now, he continues to financially support anti-gay politicians.

Joe.my.god brought up an interesting point of forgiveness. Can Ken Mehlman gain the forgiveness of the LGBT community? No. Just because he's gay doesn't mean he's absolved of his transgression. He's yet to produce any reason for us to forgive him.

Forgiveness requires that that the person has sincerely apologized for his wrongs. That doesn't come easy. We will have to see if he has truly seen if he's wrong.

Then after forgiveness, he must also show that he's willing to fixing the things he's damage. He needs to go out there, and denounce homophobia through working for LGBT rights.

I have extreme doubts whether he'll ever give a reasons for us to forgive him. Which is sad really. I'm the type of person who'd love to forgive another. But for all that he's done, he must earn that forgiveness.

More People are Becoming Tolerant of Gay Marriages

Every state, except Utah, has shown an increase in their toleration of gay marriage. Of course that doesn't mean that everyone is going to vote for it. As it was for the Prop 8 elections, many people feel no need to vote on equal marriage because they do not see how it directly effect them. We need to show to the general public that gay marriage isn't a threat to family, that it actually benefit more than just gay people, and that it's a civil rights cause.

Earlier today, Peter LaBarbera opened his Truth Academy confernece, a three day gay bashing extravaganza in a Chicago exurb. Despite weeks of flogging the event and several stories in right wing media, our spies tell us that the event was a major dud.According to our sources, there were between 20-30 people in attendance. This was shocking, considering there was a large roster of notoriously anti-gay speakers.

Of course they have no truth backing them up. I mean they had fuckwit Young Earth Creationist there, so expect no research or science or peer review from them.

Mexico has ruled that Gay Marriage in Mexico City is constitutional. This is great news for Mexico. I am optimistic that Mexico will soon reach full equality.



If Mexico does the right thing, soon it will be Canada and Mexico with full equality. Yet here in the United States, it's a long ways off. We have loud mouth religious-rights using lousy bigotry, slippery slop arguments, ignoring the importance of consent in a relationship, and lying about our history.

Prop 8 Overturned!

This is a great moment for California. Prop 8 has been ruled to have violated the 14th Amendment! The same Amendment that Republicans hate so much. The judge put the decision on stay though so no new marriage can be conducted just yet. They will take this to the Supreme Court because bigots can never be satisfied with equal rights. It's interesting of course because the entire opposition was not based on anything secular: It's based on religious ideals of what marriage should be. But sorry, in this day and age secularism need to rule, unless you want us to be Iran.

Discrimination Against Transgendered People

Erin Vaught was refused treatment, ridiculed, and dehumanized at the Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana because she is transgender, the AP reports:

"Vaught said when she, her wife and son went to the ER on July 18, she was entered into the hospital computer system as male despite an ID that stated she was female. 'I pointed out that my ID says female,' Vaught said. 'There were two ladies there, and one of them snickered a little bit and covered her mouth. The other got a very annoyed look on her face.' When she went to the exa- room, 3he was met with stares and insults and was referred to as a 'he-she,' an 'it,' and a 'transvestite.' Vaught said she was kept waiting for two hours without any treatment before a doctor saw her and said she couldn't treat her because of her transgender condition. 'I was confused,' Vaught said. 'I told them I didn't know my condition, that's why I was there. She said 'No, the transvestite thing.' She said I couldn't see a doctor until I came back with test orders from my doctor in Indy.' Benge said such reactions are not uncommon. But Vaught and her supporters wrote about her experience on the hospital's Facebook page, attracting the attention of advocacy groups including the Indiana Transgender Rights Advocacy Alliance and Indiana Equality."

The transgender community is still in dire need of support and acceptance from the public.

Judge upholds dismissal of counseling student who didn't not want to affirm homosexual behavior to patients:

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Eastern Michigan University by a student who was kicked out of its graduate program in school counseling last year for refusing, on religious grounds, to affirm homosexual behavior in serving clients.

In an order granting summary judgment to the university on Monday, Judge George Caram Steeh of the U.S. District Court in Detroit held that the university's requirement that the student be willing to serve people who are homosexual was reasonable, and did not amount to an infringement of the Christian student's constitutional rights to free speech and free expression of religion.

The university "had a right and duty to enforce compliance" with professional ethics rules barring counselors from being intolerant or engaging in discrimination, and no reasonable person could conclude that a counseling program's requirement that students comply with such rules "conveys a message endorsing or disapproving of religion," Judge Steeh wrote.
