I ...I think circumcision isn't a thing you ban. I mean, what kind of things are solved by doing that? Making men feel more comfortable with their underwear ? While there are plenty...Hey...found you via tumblr. While there are plenty of issues to focus on in Germany, I'm not sure you are totally informed about this decision from one judge in the state of Cologne. Circumcision has never been prevalent in Germany or much of Europe. Most POC (a United States term) in Germany come from countries that either do not traditionally circumcise or who do for religious reasons. Of those who do for religious reasons, the Turkish population (the largest immigrant population in Germany...even moreso than other European nations) has a horrible current practice of circumcising pre-teen boys at kind of coming-of-age parties usually without a doctor present, outside of a doctor's office or hospital setting. In many instances, local anesthetic isn't used sufficient enough to make this ritual not painful for the pre-teen boy. There have been increased incidents of these boys needing medical treatment for loss of blood and infection. (Pediatricians in Turkey are even calling for reform, for circumcision to be performed at birth.) The majority of these incidents were seen in Cologne, where a lower court there banned circumcision practices only in Cologne until medical reform made current practices safer for the boys. The case the judge heard was about a four-year-old boy (who bled profusely afterward and had an infection) and they questioned if the doctor who had performed the circumcision was actually a doctor based on answers to questions about post-treatment and no license presented. The judge also considered the news of the pre-teens in his decision. Anyway, reform is happening now. Very good thing, right? The judge didn't ban throughout Germany and did not ban forever. It was done for the child's well-being. This, though widely reported in Germany and throughout foreign news, seems to have been covered up by others focusing on race and Antisemitism (poor Muslims...since it was a Muslim ceremony that started the trial and they've been forgotten even though they are the second highest religious group outside of Christians in Germany, followed by Buddhists, then Jews). Though I like your blog, this entry is filled with racism and erasure itself. And I am one of the Germans who is circumcised (by American parents for non-religious reasons). I like being "cut". That doesn't mean I would want a 4 year-old or 12-year-old to possibly loose his penis because in some incidents, tradition came before medical safety.Jakehttp://mindhiatus.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4787330709312581036.post-62520382755273425562012-08-06T22:55:24.728-07:002012-08-06T22:55:24.728-07:00Hi there.
